Flaw Found in Symantec AntiVirus
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,125901,00.asp
Researchers at eEye Digital Security have discovered a serious flaw in Symantec's enterprise antivirus software that could be used by hackers to create a self-replicating "worm" attack against Symantec users.
Because Symantec has not yet confirmed the existence of the problem, much less patched it, eEye is offering few details on the vulnerability, which was first disclosed late Wednesday.

Canon considers halt to film camera development
http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyID=2006-05-25T125525Z_01_T118988_RTRUKOC_0_US-JAPAN-CANON.xml
A spokesman at Canon, the world's largest digital camera maker, said it would consider whether it needs to continue developing both compact and single lens reflex (SLR) film models because the markets for both are shrinking.
Canon said it would continue to produce and sell existing models and make a final judgment on the business in the future while monitoring market demand.

Microsoft battles Word PC virus
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/5013712.stm
If users get infected by the virus, attackers could open up a backdoor on the PC and take over the machine to use it for their own ends.
A fix is due for release in mid-June but Microsoft said it would bring it forward if the action was "warranted".
Microsoft told users to turn off some Word features in order to protect themselves.
Users should also run Word in so-called "safe" mode which shuts down some features of the word-processing program and stops the exploit code gaining hold of a machine.
The bug affects Microsoft Word 2002 and 2003 for Windows.

Black Frog leaps into fight against spam

Out of the ashes comes Black Frog, part of a project that is apparently willing to become a flag bearer in the fight against spam. The project, dubbed Okopipi, is developing the Black Frog antispam software as an open-source project, according to the group's wiki.
This project aims to become a distributed replacement of antispam software Blue Frog," the Okopipi wiki states. The project merges two separate efforts--Okopipi and Black Frog--that arose after the demise of Blue Frog.

Nvidia releases Nforce 5 chipset
http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer-world/news/2156650/nvidia-launches-nforce-500
Today Nvidia comes out with its Nforce 5 chipet, targetting overclockers and SLI PC owners.
The new series comprises four motherboards the 550, 570, 570 SLI and 590 SLI – increasing in both performance and price as you go up the range.
The Nforce 590 SLI takes full advantage of Corsair's XMS DDR2 RAM, dubbed 'SLI memory', because it is optimised for users running twin Nvidia graphics cards in their PC.
The enhanced performance profiles (EPP) of these memory modules (released last week) allows users greater control over their motherboard's settings via Ntune version 5.0. It means they can alter variables such as fan speeds, bus speeds and voltages.
Also launching in conjunction with the Nforce 500 series today is AMD’s 940 pin AM2 socket.

AMD Winning Commercial Market Share

Advanced Micro Devices started 2005 well and is on the road to achieving its goal of a 20 percent slice of the server market this year, a senior executive said Wednesday.
Servers based on AMD’s processors accounted for more than $1 billion of server revenue in the first quarter, according to an estimate released Wednesday by IDC. That’s the first time that AMD-based servers have broken into the billion-dollar revenue range, according to the market research company.
