E-mail of the week
- Subject: e-mail dilemma
- Do you have a simple solution for how I can incorporate photos onto my e-mail without making them an attachment? I use Yahoo DSL as my home page along with their own e-mail program. I really enjoy your informal format and listen to all archived shows that were downloaded onto a CD. That way, I can listen to them at my own leisure while the wife is tying up the PC.

Microsoft's antipiracy tool phones home daily

The tool, called Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, is designed to validate whether a copy of Windows has been legitimately acquired. However, it also checks in with Microsoft on a daily basis, the company confirmed Wednesday.
"The WGA Notifications program checks a server-side configuration setting to determine if WGA should run or not," a company representative said in an e-mailed statement. "As part of the pilot, this gives Microsoft the ability to disable the program if necessary."
No meaningful data is exchanged during the check-in with Microsoft, which happens after a computer starts up, the software maker said. Regardless, the company does receive a user's IP address and a timestamp, Weinstein said in his blog posting.
Now A Felony In The State Of Washington To Play Poker On The Internet
http://pokermag.com/ManageArticle.asp?C=310&A=11953
As of June 7, it is now a felony in the state of Washington to play poker on the Internet. The bill, S.S.B. No. 6613, has stirred up great anxiety in poker forums. Many feel, correctly, that they have been blind-sided. I searched the databases of Washington newspapers and could find almost nothing written about the law as it was making its way through the Legislature. In fact, when the Seattle Times published an article about bills to make Internet gambling a crime, it only mentioned proposals pending in Congress.
In the real world, the new law will make little difference. In fact, the Washington State Gambling Commission has taken the official position that the bill merely "clarifies" existing law:
China 'blocks' main Google site
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/5055170.stm
Internet users in major Chinese cities faced difficulties accessing Google's international site in the past week, Reporters Without Borders said.
But Google.cn, the controversial Chinese language version launched in January, has not been affected.
The site blocks politically sensitive material to comply with government censorship rules.
"It was only to be expected that Google.com would be gradually sidelined after the censored version was launched in January," Reporters Without Borders said in a statement.
"Google has just definitively joined the club of Western companies that comply with online censorship in China," the organisation said.
RIAA Targeting Youtube and Google Video
http://wiredfire.org/index.php?q=node/66
In its ever-increasing battle against Internet piracy, the RIAA is always looking for new ways to prevent people from listening to music without authorization. The newest way to share music illegally online, according to the RIAA, is via music video's from Youtube and Google Video.
Sites like Youtube and Google Video's are user-driven and run largely on content submitted by any one of it's 6 million visitors. According to the RIAA, it is also a haven to view unlicensed music video's that were recorded with TiVo or other Digital Video Recorders. A majority of the music video's posted on Youtube seems to come from recorded MTV broadcasts and are then uploaded to Youtube.
